Preparing Your Response (Landlords)
Completing the Response Form
The response must be submitted using the Tribunal’s form: Rent Tribunal Response form
Most browsers will allow you to complete the form online. However, we recommend that you download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to complete the form.
The form should be completed clearly and in full. It should:
- include all required information
- set out the respondent’s position clearly
- be submitted within the deadline.
The Tribunal may request additional information if necessary.
What to Include
The response should:
- address the proposed rent increase
- explain why you believe the increase complies with the law
- respond to the points raised by the tenant
- include any supporting evidence.
Supporting Documents
Relevant documents should be provided. These may include:
- the rent increase notice
- the tenancy agreement
- correspondence with the tenant
- evidence relating to market rent or property improvements.
Copies of all documents submitted should be retained.
Submitting Your Response
Responses must be submitted in writing and may be sent:
- by email
- by post
- in person at the Tribunal office
Proof of submission should be retained.
