If you Break your Community Service Rules

If you break the rules of your Community Service and need to go back to Court, it's important to get legal advice as soon as possible. This will give your lawyer time to prepare for your Court appearance.

You might break your Community Service rules if you:

  • commit another crime
  • don't show up for your appointment
  • don't give a good reason for missing your appointment
  • don't inform the Community Service Team if you change address
  • leave Jersey without permission
  • act violently or threaten violence
  • don't follow instructions from the person supervising your work

If you break these rules, you might:

  • get a warning
  • be required to attend a compliance meeting
  • be sent back to Court

If you refuse to cooperate or break the rules in any way, your case will be sent back to the Court that sentenced you.  If the Court finds that you broke the Order, they can:

  • let you continue with Community Service, with our without a fine
  • give you more Community Service hours
  • cancel the order and send you to prison or youth detention instead
