The role of the coroner's officer
The Coroner’s officers are civilian police staff or serving police officers. They are part of the States of Jersey Police and work closely with the Coroner to investigate deaths and support families during those investigations.
Most of the contact you will have with the Coroner’s Service will be with a coroner’s officer and they are a vital source of help and information for families and witnesses.
Coroner’s officers gather information from bereaved families, the police, doctors, mortuary staff and funeral directors. They will also gather evidence from those who may have been involved in the death, such as witnesses, or anyone a coroner decides is an ‘interested person’ in the inquest.
