Service of documents
If you need the Viscount to serve documents for you then please follow these steps:
Instructions
-
You must prepare a letter of instruction that contains your name, postal address and telephone number.
-
The letter should set out the details of the person to be served (name, postal address, telephone number).
-
The letter must enclose a comprehensive list of each of the documents to be served. We must be able to verify that you have provided each of the documents you intend to serve before we can proceed.
- The signed letter and a full copy of all the documents to be served must be provided to the Viscount's Department at Morier House.
Jersey residence requirement
Instructions must come from a Jersey resident. If you are based outside of Jersey, you will need to find a local resident or professional to assist you.
Timing and notification of service
We do our best to serve documents promptly, but please understand that we must prioritise our workload. While we cannot guarantee service on a specific date, we will make every effort to assist you where a matter is urgent.
Where a request is urgent you should contact the Viscount's Department at least 24 hours in advance to inform us.
When documents have been served, you will be contacted by a member of our team to notify you that you can collect the Record of Service.
Fees
Fees are based on the number of individuals or entities served. Where a fixed amount is set for service of a particular type of process, that amount will be charged.
Where a discretionary maximum amount is set (for example, up to £300 for service of most Orders of Justice), the standard fee to be charged for a straightforward case will be £200.
Contact the Enforcement Section of the Viscount's Department for confirmation of the fee that will be charged in a specific case.
Payment should be made in advance.
