Information about hearing dates, locations and recordings
Inquest Hearing List
A list of all future inquest hearings can be found on the Inquest Hearings page of this website, together with lists of other court hearings.
The Inquest Hearings List includes the name, age and date of death of the deceased and the time, date, location and type of inquest hearing that has been listed.
Access
Inquest hearings are usually open to the public, though the Coroner can restrict access in some circumstances. Only interested persons are allowed to participate in the hearing by asking questions of witnesses.
Location
Inquest hearings are usually held in the H.V. Benest Room on the ground floor of Morier House, but occasionally another courtroom is used, most frequently the Tribunal centre in St Helier. The location will be shown on the listings page.
Completion of inquests
The Coroner aims to complete inquests within 12 months of a person's death, except in cases where a longer period is necessary, for example, in order to obtain expert evidence or where it is necessary to adjourn the inquest until after a criminal investigation or trial.
Recordings and transcripts
lnquest hearings are recorded but transcripts are not produced automatically. If you are an interested person then you may request a transcript. There will be a charge for producing the transcript, which will reflect the cost of preparing it.
More information
Any inquiries about hearing dates and transcripts should be directed to the Court Services Team in the Viscount's Department.
